Welcome to Shera Organic Cosmetics
Shera Organics is the first ECOCERT and USDA certified organic skincare and color cosmetic manufacturer and brand owner in Arizona.
Certified organic cosmetics are very different from the many that simply claim to be organic because they have a few organic ingredients. These non-certified products are often mixed with substances that do not pass the organic certification standard. Sometimes these non-certified products will however tout the absence of one of these substances, such as Propylene Glycol, while still containing other prohibited substances.
Scientific studies have shown that these substances are potentially bad for your health. And your body absorbs these substances when they are placed on your skin! Several are banned in the European Union.
At Shera Organics we only claim our cosmetic products are ORGANIC if they are VERIFIED and CERTIFIED ORGANIC by ECOCERT or USDA organic. All of our cosmetic’s packaging is ECOCERT approved in order to avoid leeching.
We have invested a great deal of time and effort to be certified and allowed to display the ECOCERT and/or USDA certified organic seals on our products. We were inspired to become a TRUE CERTIFIED ORGANIC cosmetic brand to “Nurture your Beauty with Nature” ™. We believe that “Beauty should be organic not synthetic”™.
To meet these high standards our products NEVER CONTAIN the following
Talc – a proven carcinogen that is linked to ovarian cancer. Talc has particles similar to asbestos which can cause lung tumors. Talc is often found in foundation powder, blush, eye shadow, translucent powder, baby powder and soap.
Sodium Laureth / Sodium Laurel Sulfate (SLS) – a penetration enhancer. Commonly found in shampoo, conditioner, toothpaste, sunscreen, liquid soap and face cleanser. This a chemical ingredient that can alter the structure of the skin, allowing chemicals to penetrate more deeply into the skin and reach the blood stream.
Propylene Glycol (petroleum derived) – a solvent and wetting agent. Found in many consumer products such as deodorant, mouthwash, toothpaste and hair products. It causes skin irritation. It is considered toxic and potentially carcinogenic.
Parabens (methylparabens, polyparabens) – Preservatives suspected of having hormone-disrupting properties. Studies have shown that parabens mimic estrogen. Parabens are linked to allergies. They are commonly found in shampoos, conditioners, lotions and facial cleansers.
Petroleum Based Ingredients – Petro-chemicals are derived from crude oil and petroleum products that include mineral oil. These ingredients are widely used in personal care products for their emollient properties. However, they can cause photosensitivity and skin health issues because they create an impenetrable chemical barrier that prevents the skin from “breathing.” This leads to chapping and dry skin.
Artificial Colors (labeled as FD&C or D&C) – Synthetic colors are commonly used to mask ingredient colors to enhance product appearance. Artificial colors are linked to skin allergies and sensitivities.
Phtalates – Many synthetic fragrances contain phthalates that are also used in plastic. Pthalates are toxic to the reproductive organs and are linked to allergies, birth defects, cancer, and respiratory disorders. Their use is banned in the European Union.
Triethanolamine (TEA) – A dispersing ingredient that can cause allergic reactions as well as skin and hair dryness. It is considered toxic and potentially carcinogenic to persons exposed over long periods of time.
Butyl Acetate – a solvent, commonly found in nail polishes. It can cause cracked skin and dryness. The vapors can cause dizziness and drowsiness.
Coal Tar – a colorant in shampoos and hair dyes. Coal tar has been banned in the European Union since 2004. It is toxic and potentially carcinogenic in humans.
Cocamide DEA / Lauramide DEA – a chemical emuisifying and a foaming agent. When absorbed through skin, can create carcinogenic compounds called nitrosamines.
Diazolidinyl Urea – a chemical ingredient that releases formaldehyde. A preservative. It is considered potentially carcinogenic in humans.
Formaldehyde – a chemical ingredient that acts as a germicide, disinfectant and preservative. A potentially human carcinogen, can damage DNA and respiratory tract. It is banned by the European Union.
Bismuth-oxychloride – is produced as a by-product from refining lead, tin, copper, silver and gold ores. This ingredient requires a lot of refinement to eliminate the lead traces. An ingredient that is potentially irritating to the skin. It can also clog pores and cause blackheads, whiteheads, and acne.
In addition to the above, Shera Organic Cosmetics also commits to not using an additional 90 chemical ingredients in our organic cosmetics.
